ONWARDS

This project is designed to raise awareness of the SARC and impact of sexual violence.  NINE RED Presents… (CIC) (NRP) working in partnership with the SARC will develop a Service User Forum which in turn will design and implement the Service User Forum “#Look At Me Now – SARC Bedfordshire” with the acronym “ONWARD”.

Using NRP’s existing projects which were designed, implemented, moulded and formed by a dynamic team of Health Care Professionals, Counsellors, Artists, Healers and Educators and other Community Leaders from Luton who are/have been affected by domestic/sexual violence and historic abuse.

#“ONWARD” will provide the service users with skill attainment, education, artistic pursuits, counselling and mentoring (including art and psychoeducational therapy), and is a “For Us, By Us” type service.  With the purpose of increasing:- Self Awareness, Self-respect, Self efficacy, Self-esteem and Self-confidence within the individual; and raising public awareness to the SARC and sexual violence more generally.

ONWARDS PROJECT DESCIPTION

This project is designed to raise awareness of the SARC and impact of sexual violence.  NINE RED Presents… (CIC) (NRP) working in partnership with the SARC will develop a Service User Forum which in turn will design and implement the project “#Look At Me Now – SARC Bedfordshire” with the acronym “ONWARDS”.

The tagline and acronym are central to the SARC’s objective to raise awareness.

Firstly, the hashtag “#Look At Me Now“ has cascading layers of meaning:-

  1. For survivors the statement; “#Look At Me Now” is a powerful affirmation and declaration of surviving that trauma.
  2. For the SARC the statement; “#Look At Me Now” is stating “Look at me, I am here for you”
  3. For the project; this is a powerful brand message, it is perfect for social media and any marketing campaign.

Secondly, the acronym, which does not appear like an acronym, is formed from the words

lOok at me NoW – sARc beDfordshire, Service user forum.  This name for the Service User Forum has a very simple message that’s stems from the definition.

adverb: ONWARDS

  • In a continuing forward direction; ahead.
  • Forward in time
  • So as to make progress or become more successful.

Every part of this definition applies to everyone and every part of this project.

Proven Record of Success

NRP’s existing projects which were designed, implemented, moulded and formed by a dynamic team of Health Care Professionals, Counsellors, Artists, Healers and Educators and other Community Leaders from Luton who are/have been affected by domestic/sexual violence and historic abuse and is a “For Us, By Us” type service.

“ONWARD” will be formed from this model and will be designed and implemented by SARC service users from Bedfordshire initially under the supervision of NRP’s teams who will provide the service users with skill attainment, education, artistic pursuits, counselling and mentoring (including art and psychoeducational therapy).  The project will have the purpose of increasing:- Self Awareness, Self-respect, Self efficacy, Self-esteem and Self-confidence within the individual; and raising public awareness to the SARC and sexual violence more generally and when self sustainable NRP’s teams will slowly withdraw their support, ensuring the SARC Bedfordshire Service User Forum is a standalone programme.

Events and Activities

One of the cornerstones of our success is the events and activities that we run for and by our service users.  To meet the objectives of this project I propose the following:-

Performance & Panel:-

This event will occur quarterly starting in October.

The event begins with a performance to place guests into a feeling space, this moves into forum theatre[1] and is ended with a panel discussion.

The event will tour Bedfordshire to ensure that individuals in all areas have an opportunity to attend a panel and each panel should have a particular hard to reach group as a target audience (BAME, Disability, Gender, Culture, Religion)

Hope & Hashtags

Social Media Campaigns that coincide with various national holidays and will be daylong, weeklong or monthlong campaigns.  Starting in October.

These will be the various hashtags including:-

#LookAtMeNow

#LoveYourself

#FunWithoutTheFuss

#SelfishSelfCare  or #BeSelfishAboutYourSelfCare

[1] Forum theatre is a type of theatre created by the innovative and influential practitioner Augusto Boal, one of the techniques under the umbrella term of Theatre of the Oppressed (TO). This relates to the engagement of spectators influencing and engaging with the performance as both spectators and actors, termed “spect-actors”, with the power to stop and change the performance. As part of TO, the issues dealt with in forum theatre are often related to areas of social justice with aims to explore solutions to oppression featured in the performance.
